Armstrong County Marriage License Process

Once you apply for a marriage license in Armstrong County, a three-day waiting period starts. The count includes the day you apply. You must come back on the third day to pick up the license. Only one person needs to come for pickup. The license is then good for 60 days from the date it is issued. If you do not hold the ceremony within that window, the license expires. You would need to start over and pay again.

Both parties must be at least 18 years old to get a license in Armstrong County. The three-day wait can be waived by an Orphans' Court Judge, but only in emergencies like grave illness or military deployment. Self-uniting marriage licenses are also available. Let the clerk know at the start of your application if you want one. The Armstrong County office does not check whether your officiant is qualified. That is the couple's job.

If either person does not speak English, an independent interpreter with government-issued photo ID must come along. Foreign documents need an English translation with a notarized affidavit of accuracy. If you changed your legal name at any point, bring the name change decree.

Note: Armstrong County requires an appointment for all marriage license applications, so always call (724) 548-3220 before visiting.
